He gave me very significant exercises for my knee and took me into the gym to show me how to do the exercises. He also did deep tissue massage and stretching my leg. I have a lot of fluid retention. Fantastic experience: My second time attending Mid West Physio; my first few sessions in early 2024 following a recommendation from my GP; recovering from a cycling accident and needed treatment to accelerate my mobility. My most recent visit was earlier this month to seek treatment for a painful knee condition. While I had different physios for each treatment, both were very thorough in completing an analysis of symptoms and , then, providing a targeted exercise programme. I would have no hesitation in recommending this physio practice.

Fantastic experience: I have been attending Mid West Physio for help with vertigo due to an underlying illness. I was getting bouts of vertigo every 2 to 3 days. With the exercises Rachel has given me, the vertigo is under control. Negative experience: I had the displeasure of seeing Donnacha for one session in September. I’ve been incredibly active and athletic since childhood and had to pull out of all sport, long distance walking, and couldn’t even stand for very long due to back pain since around May. I began to explain the timeline, location, and the frequency of the pain and showed him my MRI scan that had shown the beginnings of disc degeneration in my lumbar. He explained that at my age I had very little to worry about (which I do think is fair enough) but when I asked what could explain the severity of my pain over the past few months he explained - before doing a single exercise/stretch/any physical examination with me whatsoever - that sometimes someone can just have a personality type where they think they’re in more pain than they’re actually in, he suggested that I may just be incredibly high strung or “type A” or the sort of person who is very up here all the time *this is when he raised his hand above his head*. I replied that I don’t think my personality could have changed in the last four months if I’ve been a GAA and rugby player for over the last 15 years and never had this pain before now. He then doubled down and talked some more about how it could just be my personality. He also suggested that I may just have a very low pain tolerance. Even if a physio somehow deduced such a thing from a person in the first 10 minutes of merely speaking to them, a professional should never go there. Every other expert I’ve seen before and since has taken me seriously, thankfully, but I had to share this. We see this all the time as women, particularly young women, experts minimising our symptoms. If you’re looking to avoid this, don’t come here, at least don’t go to Donnacha - he may literally not believe you if you verbalise that you have severe pain

Fantastic experience: Following a severe episode of Vertigo, for the first time, in mid-July 2023, I was advised by my GP to go in search of a specialised physiotherapist. I never knew such people existed. It was a miracle that the first number I called was Mid West Physiotherapy. Within hours, I had a callback and within 24-hours I was face-to-face with Rachel, who specialises in Vestibular Physiotherapy. Following a super-thorough assessment at the first appointment, I began a series of weekly and/or fortnightly rehab appointments during which the effects of the Vertigo attack began to clear. Rachel is very approachable, kind and good-humoured. More importantly, she is hugely knowledgeable on the subject of Vertigo and Vestibular treatment. With great confidence, she answered my many random questions and put my mind at ease. Recovery from the Vertigo attack was not quick, but neither was it slow. From the beginning, I decided to give myself over to the treatment and follow Rachel's expert guidance to the letter. As my recovery journey progressed, she tailored the rehab sessions and home exercise tasks accordingly. A big part of the recovery from the form of Vertigo that I, and many others experienced, is the work you do in between appointments and the instructions provided by Rachel were very clear. As you pass through Mid West Physiotherapy on your recovery journey, the staff are friendly and welcoming, which makes it that little bit easier if you are nervous. I have 100% confidence in the treatment I received and in recommending Rachel to anybody who has experienced any form of Vertigo, either mild or severe. It is a very complex condition, but once I put myself in the hands of this particular expert, she helped to navigate my path to wellness. Everyone's Vertigo journey will be a little bit different but I'm so lucky I found Mid West Physiotherapy and Rachel.

Fantastic experience: I am a long distance runner and I went to Mid West Therapy after years of hamstring tightness and discomfort, after previously going to other physios. In the first session with Shane Brennan he tested both of my hamstrings in numerous ways including the eccentric and concentric strength, he recommended exercises based on the results and continued to test the strength on each subsequent appointment and amended the program based on this, within the first few months I could see a very noticeable change and improvement over time they have became even better and now although I need to keep on top of the Prehab my hamstrings are perfect and I have began to compete at my best level once again, I couldn’t recommend Shane or any other members of the Mid-West Physiotherapy team enough!

Two sessions with a few wks apart, a 3rd organised but not needed as the exercises and treatment were so effective. Couldn't recommend Shane highly enough.

Fantastic experience: Brilliant Physiotherapy, Shane was of great help. I had a re-occuing elbow issue for over 7 years, I had been to 4 other Physios previously, who all treated it as tendonitis, with no improvement. Shane treated it as an Nerve issue, and after a week of nerve glides the pain was entirely gone for the first time since it started.

Physio in Castletroy (not for the first time ) as I had a new issue with my shoulder and felt the benefit immediately after being worked on. Iv been given exercises to do before I return again and felt I was given plenty of time for the issue I was having to be really and truly explained to me which in turn explained some other health issues I have so I left with a good understanding of things. I would highly recommend them . Location easy to find and parking not a problem. Reception very friendly and helpful.
